A huge part of our journey is about giving back. While the personal travel is sure to dazzle, we are confident that it will be the volunteer experiences that will show us the most about the world and touch our souls. We will be volunteering for several weeks at a time in various locations across the globe. In some instances, we will be working through an organization called Love Volunteers and in others we have found opportunities through friends or independently online.

Kathmandu, Nepal
Project: Teaching English
We spent two weeks teaching English at a local school located in one of Kathmandu’s poorest slums. We found this opportunity through Love Volunteers and worked directly with the NGO, Nepal Volunteers Council (NVC). The children were full of life and we loved being able to plan lessons, organize their annual parents day, and contribute towards the NVC volunteer program.

Project: Working at a Children’s Home
We spent two weeks volunteering at Nimit Asia, a children’s home comprising of poor and orphaned children (another Love Volunteers connection). The weeks were spent playing games, doing arts and crafts, and teaching English to the children during their summer break. The adorable and energetic children kept us on our toes and forced us to creatively fill each day.

Project: Working at an orphanage
We spent two weeks at New Way of Life (NWL) orphanage, the third Asian volunteer project through Love Volunteers. The attentive and engaging children were well behaved and eager to learn. We designed daily lessons and taught English to children of various ages and levels.

Project: Working at an orphanage
We spent two weeks at Royal Seed Home orphanage in Ofaakor, Ghana. Our time spent with the little ones here was truly life changing. We spent the days feeding, clothing, and playing with the children before and after school. During school hours, we assisted the orphanage cook in the kitchen by preparing and serving food to over 160 children.
Mwandi, Zambia
Project: Building huts
Our two weeks in Mwandi, a small village two hours from Livingstone, were spent building homes for children that have been orphaned by the ongoing AIDS epidemic. We were involved in every part of the hut building process from constructing the home’s frame to “mudding” the walls to making the front door. It was great to get our hands dirty and be involved in a physical project.
