People Tell the Story: Vietnam
The people of Vietnam could easily be our favorite from our experience in Asia. We seem to be saying that every time we travel to the next country, but it’s true. Somehow, our impression of people keeps getting better and better. The Vietnamese are so likable because they are extremely friendly, welcoming and overly hospitable.

Known as some of the healthiest food on the planet due to its fresh ingredients, focus on veggies, and lack of oil in cooking, Vietnamese cuisine is not only delicious but leaves you feeling both satisfied and healthy. Lemongrass, ginger, mint, lime, and basil liven up every meal and have a way of adding flavor without the fat. Vietnamese dishes may even be my favorite thus far on the trip (even rivaling Thai food). And the unbeatable hospitality at restaurants seems to make each bite taste even better.

I am struggling with how to write this post because there are so many amazing things about Hanoi that I want to include. From the cool city atmosphere to the beer and coffee scene, we absolutely adored this Vietnamese capital city.

Even though nine months of travel initially sounded like an eternity, Mike and I have realized that some countries, regions, or cities are unfortunately going to get cut short. We have learned to cope with this realization by adopting the mantra, “We will be back!” Vietnam epitomizes this sentiment. We only had five short days to devote to this amazing country and are already talking about planning a return visit. For our short stay, we opted to visit the capital city of Hanoi and UNESCO World Heritage sight (and recently named as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature), Ha Long Bay.
